Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig September 21 1983) is an American actress, best recognized for her performances in the roles of Shannon Rutherford on the ABC television show Lost as well as Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. Following the divorce of her parents, she left Worthington Ohio in order to settle with her family in Los Angeles. Even though she had financial difficulties in 2001, her debut came acting as Rachel's Room's principal character. In the following year, she was awarded an Young Artist Award nomination in 2002 with her portrayal of 15-year-old murder victim Martha Moxley in the television film Murder set in Greenwich. Grace was Shannon Rutherford on the Lost television show in 2004. She was the main role for two seasons, and was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award. Leaving the series Grace wanted to appear as a film actress, and had been cast as the opposite of Tom Welling in The Fog in 2005. She starred as Kim Mills opposite Liam Neeson (both in Taken 2008) as Suburban Girl as well as the Jane Austen Book Club. She reprised her role in Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a contemporary adaptation to the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace played Shannon's part in Lost for two episodes. This included the series final. In 2013, she was a guest in the sixth series of Californication. The character she plays is Faith as an admirer and muse to the actors. Hank Moody as played by David Duchovny falls in love with her. Being part of the Gyllenhaal Family, she's the younger sister of the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She started her acting career when she was a teenager, playing small appearances in his films. She also appeared alongside her brother in the popular cult film Donnie Darko (2001). She then appeared as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal's lead roles in Secretary, a romantic comedy-drama erotico, and Sherrybaby (a drama) received her nominations for Golden Globe Awards. The Dark Knight, which was released in 2008 after many highly successful movies, such as World Trade Center (2006), brought Gyllenhaal greater fame. As an unmarried mother in Crazy Heart (2009) she received a nomination for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her subsequent roles include Nanny McPhee, the Big Bang and Hysteria. Her other roles include the role of a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) as well as a singer in the film Frank (2014) and her role as the lead in the film The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). In 2021 Gyllenhaal was able to make her writing and directing debut in the psychological thriller The Lost Daughter for which she won an award at the Venice International Film Festival's Best Screenplay Award and was nominated to win the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
